first aid for the scholarly brain

Some of us find it really, really hard to just sit down and write. Maybe you’re neurodivergent. Maybe you’re working through some mental health challenges, or chronic illness that impacts your cognition. Maybe you’re just burned out, or trending that way. If your brain tends toward the anxious, avoidant, afraid, or easily distracted, sometimes you have to care for the brain you have in order to get to the work. This workshop will give you tools and strategies to do just that - rather than just saying “make a time in your calendar to write, and show up”.

Recorded live on March 7, 2023

$40 USD

(25% and 50% sliding scale available)

who is this for

  • People who feel like their brain is doing the most to prevent them from working

  • People who feel like their brain does NOT want to conform to the “standard academic" advice” - and they want new tools, not a new brain

  • Anyone who is struggling with fear, anxiety, avoidance, and distraction around their work

  • People looking for advice beyond “just sit your butt in the chair and write”

  • Anyone looking for a toolkit to address their body and brain to support writing (and overall well-being, too!)

before you watch

Use the pre-session workbook to track your mood, energy levels, emotions, and repetitive thoughts around writing so you have some actual data to use during our workshop.

The workbook (printable and fillable) is included when you sign up.

what we will do

During the workshop, we will:

  • Go through common brain gremlins that can make writing a stressful experience

  • Talk about how neurodivergence and disability operate in the emotional world of writing

  • Talk about tools to use before, during, and after your working sessions to support your body and brain

after the workshop

  • The recording and transcription will be yours to keep so that you can continue to reference the tools and strategies presented

  • A post-session workbook of exercises and resources to help you continue the work

  • Recorded audio files (with transcriptions) for meditation/relaxation prompts for your use
